Happy January! To those are you reading my blog post tonight, I hope you all had an amazing holiday break with your friends and family. I still can not believe that it is already 2015! I can not wait for the adventures of this year! BRING IT!
Today, January 12th, 2015 marks 1 year since I have moved to Nashville from my little town in Utah. It is still so surreal that I have written this blog post for you all to read. This time last year, I was rolling into Nashville in my mom's minivan with the car packed up all the way to the ceiling with my belongings. Right now, I am currently in my apartment in the middle of the city watching "The Bachelor" wrapped in a leopard blanket, waiting next to my computer to receive the mix of a song I wrote this morning. Um...WOW!
The past 12 months have been full of a lot of changes, (besides the obvious 4- states-over-jump). I have moved into 2 different apartments, made new family and friends, written new songs, found myself , and all the little things in-between like growing an inch taller! HECK YES! This past year was also a year filled with a lot of firsts. I still remember my first grilled cheese from the Grilled Cheeserie (a grilled cheese truck here in Nashville), my first time seeing a show at the Opry, my first time performing in Nashville, my first time going to a "meat & three", and my first time line dancing! It is ALSO the first time I have ever been on my own, and the first time I have ever lived in the middle of a big city.
If someone asked me 4 years ago when my dream became a reality and the tip of this journey began, "What do you honestly think you will be doing when you're on the brink of 18?" I would have laughed and said "I will probably be going to senior prom with whatever boy I like that week and then going home to write a song about when we kissed on my front porch when he dropped me off. " , but I would have hoped for more. I would have hoped...
1. I would be living in Nashville.
2. I would be writing songs everyday with people that I respect and have looked up to for years.
3. I would be pinning pins on Pinterest to decorate my apartment, rather than dreaming of living in one.
4. I have found myself as a person.
5. I have found myself as an artist.
Knowing that I can mark off all those things on my list, makes me feel like I am the luckiest girl in the whole world. Pinch me, I MUST be dreaming! I would have never thought that my everyday routine would be what it is. I get to wake up every morning happy, healthy, and inspired. I have learned so much about who I am as a person and who I am as an artist through this time I have spent away from my hometown. I think this move has made an incredible impact in my life. This city has shaped me as a writer, an artist, and a girl. I am not the same person I was this day last year, and I am grateful for that. Not because I wasn't in a place personally that I liked, that's not it at all. I am grateful because this city is allowing me to grow and change in ways I didn't know I could. In ways I don't think I could have if I had stayed in Utah. I am proud of the girl I am today.
You all have read my blog every month now for a year. You have read about my many crazy once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and the small happy-dance moments too. This is just the beginning of a new life for me and I can not wait to see what else is to come. I read a quote the other day that struck a chord in my heart (no pun intended)...
"Isn't beautifull that some of the best days of your life haven't happened yet?"
I can't even imagine what else is in store for me in this year to come and the years that follow. Thank you all for following my journey on here and I hope you keep reading along as I continue to chase this dream! I am surrounded by the most beautiful family (both my new Nashville family and my family back in Utah) , the most talented musicians and songwriters, the best of friends, and the best role models a girl could ask for! Thank you all for believing in my dream and in me. I hope one day soon, you won't be just reading about my stories on this blog...But you will be hearing them from your headphones, from your radio as your driving to work, or using my story to inspire all of you to chase down your dream and live a life you love.
I will be forever grateful to call Nashville my home. I am home.
Until Next Time...
